What is the Plasma Pen?
Plasma Pen is the world’s most advanced, non-invasive, skin lifting, skin tightening, and rejuvenation device used to treat wrinkles, and sagging, dull skin. The Plasma Pen is an FDA approved, CE approved device used to perform fibroblast therapy, a technique used to stimulate production of collagen in the skin.
Original Plasma Pen was created in the United Kingdom and is manufactured in Germany.
Please be aware of Chinese copies which do not produce plasma just heat.
How Does the Plasma Pen Work?
Plasma Pen converts electrical energy into gaseous diatomic molecular nitrogen and transmits that energy in a non-contact way to the skin’s surface. Device is kept about 1mm above the skin surface. A little spark of energy causes a micro-trauma to the skin’s epidermal layer (top layers) whilst simultaneously heating and disrupting the deeper dermal structure via thermal conduction. This treatment is also known as fibroblasting.
What is the Function of Fibroblast in Wound Healing?
Fibroblasts deposit Type 3 Collagen at the site of the superficial trauma caused by the PlasmaPen treatment. This allows the skin to start the healing process. These fibroblasts produce a new ExtraCellular Matrix (ECM) and this developing ECM consists of Type 3 Collagen, Hyaluronic Acid, and Elastin. Over the next 12 weeks, Type 3 Collagen is replaced by Type 1 Collagen, as the wound fully closes, unveiling fresher and more youthful-looking skin.
What Areas Can Be Treated With a Plasma Pen?
Fibroblasting produces excellent results for any area of the body, particularly the face and neck regions.
- Crow’s feet around eyes
- Upper and lower eyelids – Bags and hoods
- Forehead lines
- Accordion lines – the lines that form outside of the mouth when you smile
- Jowl / jawline tightening
- Marionette lines – The creases or folds that run vertically from the corners of the mouth down to the chin
- Nasolabial folds / smile lines – The folds that run from the sides of your nose down to the edge of your mouth
- Necklines, turkey neck
- Smoker’s lines – those vertical wrinkles also known as lipstick lines around the mouth
- Acne scars – improvement in the appearance of post-acne marks and scars
- Stretchmarks
- Skin texture/ crepey skin and big pores
How Long Will it Take to See Results?
Plasma Pen skin tightening results are impressive but should not be proposed as an alternative to surgery in cases of severe skin laxity. Only surgery can achieve these kinds of results. You will typically see immediate tightening along with cumulative improvements over the next three months in the appearance of saggy skin. In some cases, it may require more than one session depending on the desired results.
What Is The Best Non-Surgical Treatment For Wrinkles?
PlasmaPen™ soft surgery is widely regarded as one of the very best non-surgical treatments for wrinkles. Using a gaseous arc of ionized plasma gas that is created by the PlasmaPen™ device, the plasma energy transfers rapidly to the skin’s outer (epidermal) layer to heat and disrupt the deeper dermal structure via thermal conduction. This creates a dual-zone of micro-trauma consisting of superficial micro-damage to the epidermis and inner thermal modification within the dermis (especially to the fibroblasts which is why it is often referred to as PlasmaPen™ fibroblasting).
There is a wide range of medi-aesthetic treatments and cosmeceutical solutions available for the softening, reduction, and/or elimination of wrinkles. Some of the state-of-the-art, nonsurgical treatments for wrinkles from PlasmaPen™ include:
- Mesotherapy
- Laser treatment
- Dermabrasion
- RF (Radio-frequency) skin tightening
Fibroblasting helps deliver immediate lift and tightening of loose skin, significantly combats photo-aging, and eliminates most superficial wrinkles (rhytids). It then stimulates extensive dermal remodeling over the next 3 months which includes new collagen synthesis, the production of elastin, and increased cross-linking between collagen and elastin.
Collectively, this helps strengthen, plump, inflate and lift the skin’s structure above to reduce, soften and even entirely eliminate wrinkles. It also encourages the binding of hyaluronic acid with water to help fill, inflate, and plump wrinkles in the treatment area. The dermis becomes stronger and more flexible and this all underpins the partial-to-complete elimination of medium-depth wrinkles alongside a marked improvement and softening of deep wrinkles.
PlasmaPen™ also helps activate and release important proteins in the dermis which regulate cell maturation and encourage extensive tissue regeneration and repair. All these positive changes underpin future tissue stability and help prevent and slow down many of the negative effects of aging that actually cause wrinkles in the first place.
Can Plasma Pen Treat All Skin Types?
No – not with full PlasmaPen™ treatment anyway (for rejuvenation only skin treatment – where the skin is not fully broken and the fibroblasts are not targeted – we can actually treat any skin type).
For full PlasmaPen™ treatment, we only treat skin types 1 to 3 on the Fitzpatrick scale. Your technician will be able to determine precisely what skin type you are and will likely use one of our professional Skin Type Sensors.
Treating anyone with darker skin than this with full treatment is putting clients at risk of pigmentation. The reason for this is that people with darker skins have melanocytes capable of making large amounts of melanin. When black skin is injured, for example, the melanocytes will usually either hyperpigment or hypopigment. Dark skinned people have a greater risk of forming keloid and hypertrophic scars too.
As will be discussed in your consultation, certain skin types heal at different rates. For example, oily-skinned clients may take longer to heal. Our technicians give a great deal of consideration to clients who are contraindicated and/or who may have sensitivities. This will be discussed with you prior to any treatment and you should be completely honest and transparent in your responses.
Clients with compromised immune systems may also take longer to heal and may not always achieve the results they expect due to their lymphatic system not working properly. Without a fully functioning lymphatic system, the cells responsible for the 4 phases of our procedures healing process (coagulation, inflammation, cell regeneration and tissue maturation) cannot always fully do their job properly and the rejuvenation, lifting and tightening of the skin may thus not then give the same level of results that are usually common with our PlasmaPen™ treatment.
What Aftercare is Involved?
Aftercare following a PlasmaPen™ treatment is very straightforward and mostly common sense. If you are paying for an incredible treatment like this and investing in your beauty and you then willfully ignore the strict instructions your technician will fully brief you on – perhaps by choosing to go on a sunbed the next day – you will clearly imperil the outcome and may not achieve optimal results.
Is PLASMAPEN™ Treatment Painful?
For many, PlasmaPen™ is virtually a pain-free treatment by putting a numbing cream and is often described as merely tingly. However, the treatment may be moderately uncomfortable depending on you and where you are being treated. Eyelid procedures (where the skin is at its thinnest) can be more painful for some people , plasma delivery is super-fine probes allowing to work very quickly and efficiently and this minimizes potential discomfort for you by design.
Why You Can Not Be Treated If You Are On Anticoagulants?
Anticoagulants are medicines that help prevent blood clots. They’re usually given to people at a high risk of getting clots so as to reduce their chances of developing serious conditions such as strokes and heart attacks.
Anticoagulant drugs (Warfarin for example but also Ivaroxaban/Xarelto, Dabigatran/Pradaxa, Apixaban/Eliquis, Edoxaban/Lixiana, and others) are a major contraindication for your technician’s insurer and people using them are NOT to be treated with PlasmaPen™ because they thin the blood (or rather they interrupt the process involved in the formation of blood clots so while they’re sometimes called “blood-thinning” medicines, they don’t actually make the blood thinner).
Anyway, the healing of surgical and traumatic wounds – like the micro-traumas we cause with PlasmaPen™ – specifically and intentionally involves the clotting process, inflammation, cell proliferation, and tissue remodeling. Anticoagulants can slow and delay this healing process.
Delayed healing of traumatic wounds can cause persistent bleeding, increased wound seepage, and in some cases failed wound closure. Delayed wound healing can also lead to infection among other undesirable things.
The principal drugs which can slow wound healing are cytotoxic antineoplastic and immunosuppressive agents, corticosteroids, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and anticoagulants. If in your consultation these drugs and contraindications come up then you cannot be treated with PlasmaPen™ and this is absolutely for your own benefit.
